A last look at Lopez...

Every once in a while,  time away from the everyday routines at home becomes more than just a nice getaway but is an occasion that upon reflection makes the special list of Memorable. You know what I speak of...there is something unique about it, sometimes hard to put your finger on but recognizable all the same. Maybe it was good timing. Maybe perfect weather. Or sensational scenery. Or amazingly gracious hosts. Or combinations of all of them. Such was our Labor Day weekend.

Bob and I see why Lopez Island is a favorite spot in the San Juan Islands. It's a laid-back, friendly, intimate, casual place with an artistic bent and scenery around every corner. It was Artist Studio Tour weekend and we saw some art and bought some art. And tucked out of sight from the low-key, farmy, beachy, driftwood-y island most see are some jaw-dropping home studios with drop-dead gorgeous views. Things seem to operate on a slower pace and there is much to be said for honor systems. I saw the honor system applied to farm and fish. And it appears to work. Shades of small town trust. So, before I move on to other things, I felt a pull to a few photos that I know will serve to trigger even more memories and tell the story. It is a personal memory, but I hope is expansive enough that you can also realize the pleasures of the island. A heartfelt thank you to our hosts, Kay, Dave, and Francie (our special navigator) for a truly memorable time.
