Pooh may not have appreciated the next guy who shared his creator’s birthday, but nevertheless….

A quickie you’ll enjoy about this book and this guy:
I love love LOVE this book and have it on my shelf. It’s authored by Jen Bryant and illustrated by Melissa Sweet.
I suppose it’s considered a children’s picture book, but anyone who loves words and fantastic illustration (it won a Caldecott Honor Award) would enjoy this book. Guaranteed. Absolutely. No question. For sure. Promise. Pledged. Absotively-posilutely.
Roget was an inward child who preferred solitude and list-making to play and socialization. He struggled with depression for most of his life, but the love of lists and words arose partly as a coping mechanism, even as a child. He liked Linnaeus’s idea to classification of species; he also loved to classify plants and animals, but he decided to classify words, also. He kept notebooks where he made lists of ideas interesting to him.
His first completed classification and list of words - Collections of English Synonyms Classified and Arranged - was completed when he was 26, was printed, and has remained in print since 1852 in many languages. He was a physician in trade, often donating his services to poor areas of London. And did you know he invented the slide rule?
