Look at what you love.

Some of you know how much I love The Marginalian. It used to be called Brain Pickings. It is entirely free, although she does accept small donations to help out. It is something I would recommend to every one of my friends and readers. The work she does to put each edition together is awe-inspiring. The quotes, the books, the book illustrations: all on a theme she has compiled in one place.

Her name is Maria Popova. It is the 17th anniversary of her endeavors and she has shared 17 life lessons she’s learned over time by running this wonderful place. I think you will enjoy them.

It is HERE.

A revisit…or two.

I am certain you are having the same feeling of sadness, despair, negativity - pick your best choice - over the state of the world right now. And our country. I am a news junkie, so perhaps I bring it upon myself; but, if I am to be honest here, I worry a lot more about the people out there who seem to never read the news at all (or view it or listen to it on a mainstream media source.)

That’s all I’ll say about that now.

But maybe you need this now. I surely did.

A few years ago I put together this alphabetical list of things I love. It was in response to Kim Klassen’s series on fonts and type and design. We chose some beautiful fonts to play with, and I had so much fun creating my list. I am sharing it here again. It reminds me of the beauty of everyday things and the loveliness that exists in our lives. A response to help us through the worries and sadness of all that life also is. Soon I may try to make another list; it was very hard to limit myself in the first one. There are so many lovely, lovely things. And I can play with more fonts. Let’s see: avocados, artists, arrivals, aqua, autumn. Astronauts!

I invite you to pick a letter and think of 5 things you love and add it to the comments. We could all use it.

And, hey, guess what. I think you need this, too. Not the first time I’ve posted it, and probably not the last. But….love! Claire Crosby (at age 7) and her dad.

“14. Choose joy. Choose it like a child chooses the shoe to put on the right foot, the crayon to paint a sky..”

A romp through November posts of the past. (That’s 2022 down to 2014 including my old blog. I’ve been doing this for a long time!)

All those below are from my previous blog. If one day you’re curious, or bored, hop on over. It was in existence from 2008 to 2016. It has a LOT of art, and some broken links, as expected for older posts. But not that many. And, (and I know I am biased here), there are some love-of-the-arts gems.

It can only be so — if we don’t continually outgrow ourselves, if we don’t wince a little at our former ideas, ideals, and beliefs, we ossify and perish.
